Don't be afraid to make mistakes

In  Hippo's world of memory enhancing  it's okay to make mistakes.

Perfectionism is unrealistic and restrictive. Making mistakes can be creative for you. It can lead you down a different path and permit you to conquer great hurdles.

Soon fear of mistakes will go away. Yes you can shake the feeling of fear away.

As long as it isn't dangerous for you to try and work it out then you will see that making a mistake did not harm you or your future..

Nothing ventured ,Nothing gained...

I will be back next week to chat.

The brain is able to do many wonderful things....

If your brain has adequate nutrients & your body has plenty of exercise & some necessary mental
stimulation, along with healthy socialization, then your brain and body will be in balance.
The neurons will be content and new connections will continue to be formed. Remember
that your brain regulates every single function in the body such as breathing to circulation and many more.....
Tha brain uses approximately 20  % of the body energy- energy and oxygen...
Next week , I will talk about the gray matter and some signs of malfunctions in the Brain...and perhaps needs your Doctor's point of view and advice.

Make a great week!

Try to maintain a healthy body weight even when dining out.....

When you dine out - it is difficult to stay within your moderation dietary and budget limits.. Here is a Tip List..

1. Before dinner drinks add calories and cost to your evening/ luncheon.
2. Leave the buns / bread in the basket.
3. Skip the soup- sodium city.
4. Enjoy the salad- use half of the salad drg.
5. Sides- order veggies instead of pasta.
6. Main course- you could order 1/2 portion.
7. If ordering pasta- order tomato based sauces in lieu of the cream sauces, top with seafoods.
8. Share a divine dessert. ( one dessert, two forks)

I am sounding like a "Debbie Downer" but you and your belly will be happy in the long run.

Sounds yummy and nutritious ! Hippo's take on some snacks.......

Do you know a bad snack from a good snack.?
It can be very misleading!

Here are some healthy snacks as long as moderation overrules your temptations.

1.Bean good.
2.Edayummy-Soybeans packed with protein ( the soybean trounces all other beans for protein) excellent for sprinkles on salad and munching.
3.Holy Kale- contains calories plus and sodium+ but it's kale - so go for it!

Then there are a few not so upfront about nutrition values that they list on label.
1.Hippie snacks-Coconot? not quite true to the label- good source of saturated fat though twice as much as on label.
2.Blue Monkey Coconut chips gets it right..... Numbers on label are right at least ! Don't forget to checkout fats on label.
3.Sweet potato tortilla chips contain more corn and oil than sweet potatoe.

I think that almonds, peanuts, seeds, and other nuts have more nutrients /vitamins, protein, and zinc and magnesium and unsaturated fats( lower risk of heart disease) without added salt or sugar.
Can be used for munchies.... Nuts make a excellent snack.

Happy Spring!

Healthier Easter Twists!

Easter is just a few days away.

As you know "Hippo" loves a twist especially when it relates to Wellness...

A few Healthy Twists that will help you at Easter time....

-Make a healthier dessert with less sugar and a substitute for oils or butter/margarine,using unsweetened applesauce. Also white flour ( 1/2 of amt. could be replaced with whole wheat
flour.

-Easter baskets could consist of some chocolate bunnies and chicks etc. as anticipated but add some non food items (a makeover never hurts) as non food items will replace some sugar edible items and if items are fun the candy won't be missed.

-Have plenty of vegetables available for eating at dinner and raw veggies for the rest of day for treats.

-let your hard boiled eggs hatch-devilled eggs handy for brunch or lunches.

-Choose healthy snacks to serve ; absent of sugars, excess sodium.Use seed crackers, make kale chips.
(Read labels and list of ingredients on packaged snacks before purchasing.)

Moderation will help a great deal.....

Try one or two healthy twists!
